At 8:06 am, the strongest earthquake in the stateʼs history shook central Idaho. Measuring 6.9 on the Richter Scale, the quake caused over 20 miles of ground to thrust upward and fracture at the surface, some of it pulled 100 yards apart. Despite a sparse population, over $12 million in damages were reported along with two deaths. The victims, ages 6 and 7, were felled by debris as they walked back from school.
